Specialists in Metal Coatings
When it comes to fasteners and forgings, coatings play a crucial role in protecting metal from corrosion and rust when exposed to various environments. Coatings also offer aesthetic benefits, especially when visible parts of the fasteners or bolts need to blend seamlessly with the existing structure.
At E.J. Hadaway, we provide different types of coatings to suit your specific requirements. These include:
- Mechanical Galvanizing: This room-temperature process utilizes a mechanical method called ‘rumbling’ to coat the components, providing sacrificial or cathodic protection. Zinc, a more reactive metal than steel, is used in black, clear (blue), and gold options. Gold zinc offers the highest corrosion resistance.
- Electroplating: In this process, a current is used to adhere the coating to the steel. Zinc is also used in electroplating, providing protection and enhancing the appearance of the fasteners or bolts.
- Hot Dipped Galvanizing: This method involves coating iron and steel in a bath of molten zinc at approximately 450°C. The pure zinc reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide, which further reacts with carbon dioxide to create zinc carbonate. This durable, dull grey material acts as a protective layer against corrosion.
- PTFE Coatings (Polytetrafluoroethylene): PTFE coatings are non-stick fluoropolymer coatings that utilize a two-coat system (primer and topcoat). These coatings are commonly used when a dry lubricant, low friction, or corrosion-resistant coating is required.
